Review: “Philatelist Nicholas Keller leads a double life as a contract killer. Poe’s ability to express Keller’s double entendre responses to phone calls from his boss adds levity to the protagonist’s rather macabre career. The juxtaposition of a stamp collector who uses special tongs to handle delicate slips of paper and a hired murderer who doesn’t hesitate to kill with his bare hands is almost comical. Keller is assigned to snuff out an abbot in a Manhattan monastery who is slated to testify against some New Jersey politicians. The delightful but arrogant brogue of an Irish abbot contrasts with the German accent of a stamp collector who describes his wares. The audio closes with Keller and his boss laughing congenially about the irony of their morals as they switch the terms of their next contract to obliterate the person who placed the contract rather than the target—a 14-year-old stamp collector.”
